So I diligently swatched yesterday and decided on this pattern. Then I ripped out the swatch (Wish I had taken a photo) and cast on this little scarf.
Except...
the scarf is wider than my swatch. (42 vs 25 stitches) and I am getting these puddles. The swatch was more generalized touches of colour scattered around. So:
1) Leave it and keep going?
2) Rip it and knit it wider?
3) Switch to something multidirectional? Ala Iris Schreier
4) Knit it horizontally?
Knitting it narrower isn't a flavour I'm after, I want it to cover my throat without having multiple wraps.

Well, unless you wear your scarves totally flat, and never move your head and shoulders as you go through your day, the final product will not ever look like the scarf when it is laid out with the color puddles, etc.
I say just keep going, because the yarn is luscious, and you'll wrap the scarf and wear it in such a way that the effect will be much more like what you see in the ball of yarn.
Well now see, I don't find a problem with that pooling. I think it is a very pretty effect.
And Melanie is right, because when you're wearing a scarf, the pooling going to show as it does lying flat.
The only kind of pooling I really dislike is when it's in globs of color all in one spot and then starts another glob in another spot etc. I don't like it to LOOK like big globs. Yours is nice, but if you don't like it, you need to change it because pooling is one of those really personal preferences things.

I don't mind pooling, but if it's really bothering you, I think that yarn would look lovely as a multi-directional scarf.
Yeah, I LOVE multi directional scarves. In fact, I've been thinking why haven't I ever made one myself? They are cute. Might be a good solution.
Ok, this is my opinion, if you use a multi-color yarn you are going to get pooling, right? I really like the colors in the yarn but the pattern is so lovely and delicate that I would re-knit the scarf in a solid color to play up the pattern and use this lovely yarn for something else that would give the proper attention to the colors and fiber. I think the scarf would be ok the way it is, but it sounds like you are not completly satisfied with the end product so far. shelly in Omaha
